Finding the right online dating service is crucial to your finding the right person. Think about it--a quality online dating site is going to come up with quality dates for you, even if some of them turn out not to be your soul mate. Sure, you ideally meet your soul mate by chance, not at a bar, but life doesn't always work out that way. That's why a quality online dating site isn't a bad idea.

To find the right online dating site, search the Internet and see what people have to say about the online dating services that are available. Once you've narrowed the field that way, visit a couple of them to see what kinds of people are registered there. Some will let you have a free trial period. Some even let you have a free membership, but most people benefit more from an actual paid membership. There are differences in these three types of online dating site memberships besides money.

Free memeberships are usually limited to your creating a profile, browsing and viewing ads, but they don't give you contact information for other members you may be interested in.
Trial memberships are free, and you get the advantage of full membership but it's only for a limited time (usually 6-10 days). Then you have to pay if you want to continue being a member.
Paid subscriptions give you full access to all the services provided by the specific online dating site. You can also usually be more detailed in your searches. Some paid services will even notify you by email if a new member who meets your criteria has joined.
